What should I do if I’m invited to a Dessert Party?

Last night my family was invited to a neighbors home for “home made dessert and ice cream.”

I considered my Options as well as the Upsides and Downsides. First let’s start with the reasons why I wanted to go:

The Reasons Why I wanted to Go

1). I like friends. Everyone needs a community to rely on, including myself. I like to sit around and chat while eating food. It just feels good.

2). My kids like friends. They don’t want to be the weird family with the weird dad that won’t come to a party because he’s scared of sugar.

3). My wife likes friends. She doesn’t want to be married to the jerk that refuses to socialize.

The Reasons Why I don’t want to Go

1). Sugar makes me feel lousy.

2). If I go, I know I’ll eat dessert.

3). I’m working on my 3rd day of no sugar and this is going to blow it.

Did I go?

Yes, most assuredly. I went quietly into the night, knowing what was awaiting me.

Chocolate Cake and Homemade Ice Cream

I thought about bringing my own pathetic plate of fruit. I even had one made at home:

But I didn’t.

I could have turned the Dessert away and offended the chef.

But I didn’t.

I could have said I’m a sugar addict and I appreciate all they have done, I just cannot partake.

But I didn’t.

I could have run away.

But I didn’t.

Instead I indulged. And thanked the chef. And loved every bite. And check a Red X on my Goal Calendar. And started again in the morning.
