Coronavirus and Me

Coronavirus and Me

It has been a while since I posted.  It’s because I’m a lazy.  Seriously.  There’s no other excuse than that.  I’m a lazy donkey ass. I mean what are my hobbies right now?  Being a lazy ass is #1. I have been sick.  I got Covid 19.  There’s no doubt in my mind.  Remember my last post: https://www.sugarbroke.com/vacation-binge/ Yeah, that’s me in San Diego, at a wedding and at Disneyland.  All three are the worlds’ petri dish for spreading virus. Including…

Vacation Binge

Vacation Binge

Went on a trip to San Diego for my brother’s wedding. Stopped at Disneyland for a day (that’s about my limit, one day. I enjoyed the matterhorn). Everynight, we went to IHOP where kids eat free.  We ordered these oreo milkshakes.  They were crazy good. I ate every form of sugar for one week.  Really I didn’t resist anything sweet that was placed in front of me. These Macaroon Cupcakes at the wedding Dinner?  Sure, why not….. Am I disappointed…

Resetting the clock

And working on completing the book. Do I feel like a hypocrite writing a book about not eating sugar on the day after I binged hardcore? Yes. “I felt the urge to reassure him that I was like everybody else, just like everybody else.” ― Albert Camus, The Stranger

Falling off the Wagon and Getting back Up

Falling off the Wagon and Getting back Up

Here is a Reddit post that resonated.  More on my Holiday and post Holiday binge later. Last night I partook of some ice cream and chex muddy buddies along with a bowl of sweetened cereal.   Fell off the wagon (after 2 years) from r/sugarfree Card

Down but not out………

Down but not out………

Ended 2019, in the year of our Lord, with many chocolates, cookies, cakes and all of the extremely negative side effects and consequences.  My body becomes less tolerant to sugar every year. I did have a 125 day sweets free 2019 though and I keep that on the forefront of my mind. I’m working on my 2020 goals and “intentions” (a millennial generation term for goals and I am on the back end of that generation, so I might as…

Back to Zero – And How to Avoid Sugar on Christmas

Back to Zero – And How to Avoid Sugar on Christmas

My Holidays are choppy right now.  I wake up pretty committed, then it kind of melts away as the day progresses.  I succumb yesterday at the feet of some Christmas chocolates.  Then I paid for my sins. So, I had to reset my counter and starting today at 1 again. These recent posts on Reddit resonated with my experience:   Going great and then BAM I binged from r/sugarfree Card At Coca-Cola, we recognize that too much sugar isn’t good…

Always Starting Over

Always Starting Over

Not a downer post.  A Happy post.  I went 125 days without sugar.  I feel great about that.  Yes, I’m starting back at zero, but I don’t feel down.  Sincerely.  Not trying to be a motivator, just how I feel. Unfortunatley, over Thanksgiving, I flew to Vegas with my family and partook of the forbidden fruit.  We flew on Frontier Airlines.  Have you ever flown on Frontier?  That’s an experience in itself.  Really cheap though.   Found a cheap ass…

Clean Halloween – But it wasn’t easy

Clean Halloween – But it wasn’t easy

There are plenty of people “re-calibrating” after Halloween weekend. No need to be discouraged.  Today is monday and you can start fresh today. If you binged on Halloween, just ask one question to yourself. Was it worth it? Don’t shame or blame or wallow in defeat.  Just ask that question and remember the answer for the next Holiday season. I’m slowly forgetting my answer to that question as I get closer to 100 days. Here’s the reddit thread of people…

Will I partake of Halloween Candy?

Will I partake of Halloween Candy?

Last year at this time, I was committed to not eating Halloween candy. It didn’t go so well. I’m a sucker for kit kat bars and reeses sticks. This year, I have something more to lose however.  I’m 92 days into my 100 Day challenge. I will drown in sorrow if I fall. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow. ______ I weighed myself this morning. I’m down to 176lbs.  I haven’t been this low since I was a…

Today’s Fishing Conversation

I’m not a fisherman.  I think I’ve caught 5 fish my whole life.  My grandpa used to live on a river so we would go bass fishing now and then. Last night I got a call from a friend.  They had joined a competitive fishing event and needed a 6th guy.  I told him that I don’t know a rod from a reel, but I’d be happy to experience it with them. I woke up this morning at 4:00 am. …

Cruise Control, with speed bumps

As the 100 Days off of sugar is getting very close, my mind has basically given up on tricking me into eating sweets.  I’m committed to 100 days and there’s no amount of donuts or talk of moderation or chocolate cake that is going to persuade me into caving. Take last Sunday for example. It was my sister’s birthday.  So we celebrated it with a chocolate cake. On my list of sweet cravings, chocolate cake is #2.  Here is my…

I went to bed last night at 11:30pm.  I woke up this A.M. at 5:30 and jumped out of bed. I don’t want to sound like Mr. motivator or whatever.  I’m actually not happy about this. I told my wife that I’d prefer to sleep in, because I get bored in the morning. My body and mind just aren’t tired anymore.  I used to be the sleepiest guy in the world.  Now, I am wide eyed at 5:30am trying to…

Day 43 of No Sugar – So Much Easier Now

I’ve never been past 50 days of no sugar.  Right now I’m trending in the right direction and I’m feeling great. I don’t have the intense cravings, I don’t even think about sweets anymore.  My mind knows I’m not going to do it and it has largely left me alone.  It is usually at about this length of abstinence that my mind starts tricking me into the “moderation trap”. The Moderation Trap Life is great for people that can eat…

August was Sugar Free – I can now stare a doughnut in the face

I made it through August Sugar Free (According to these Sugar Broke guidelines). I’m going to get to 100 Days.  I’ve tried many times and failed.  This time it feels a little different. For example: Over the weekend my 6 year old boy asked me if I’d take him and a friend to Krispy Kreme. Usually Krispy Kreme is very triggering for me.  I crave doughnuts.  I love them.  They love me.  We just don’t do well together.  The sights,…

On Reddit, a user posted a photo of what a beach looked like in the 70’s. I’m not about to fat shame anyone.  I care very little with body shape, size or figure.  We all are unique. I do care about activity level, discipline and the over saturation of sugar in our food culture. The Sugar industry is to blame.  We are to blame.  Quit buying sweets, and the convenience stores will take notice.   A beach in 70s. Not…

Conversation on quitting sugar Cold Turkey vs Tapering Off

A nice thoughtful commentary from Reddit on quitting sugar cold turkey versus tapering off. As you know, I am firmly planted in the cold turkey, complete abstinence camp. However, I am open minded enough to understand that the method of Sugar Broke is not for everyone. Consider this example: Don’t try to quit cold turkey. This may work for some people, but not for most imo. Your brain is absolutely and completely addicted to dopamine you’re used to getting from sugar. If you…

I had a rough week on sugar.  Prior to this latest binge session, I was 28 days strong and feeling great!
